In his second year leading the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball, Mark Pope guided the team back to the NCAA Tournament, though their championship hopes were cut short with a second-round loss to the Iowa State Cyclones men’s basketball.
Since the season ended, Kentucky has faced significant roster turnover. Seven players have exited following the opening of the transfer portal on April 7, and the program has yet to secure a transfer commitment to replace that lost talent. Still, Pope has previously demonstrated his ability to rebuild quickly, highlighted by last year’s No. 2-ranked recruiting class that brought in six new players.
Behind the scenes, the coaching staff remains active in the transfer market. According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Kentucky is among several programs pursuing Isaac Celiscar, a transfer from the Yale Bulldogs men’s basketball.
Shaw reported that Celiscar recently held in-home visits with multiple schools, including DePaul Blue Demons men’s basketball, Texas A&M Aggies men’s basketball, and Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s basketball, along with Kentucky. Campus visits are expected to follow, with Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Minnesota emerging as the most frequently mentioned contenders.
Celiscar is coming off a strong sophomore campaign after originally joining Yale as part of its 2024 recruiting class. He started 31 games, posting career-best averages of 13.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting an efficient 57.3% from the field and 40.7% from three-point range.
His performance earned him All-Ivy League Second Team recognition and placed him at No. 114 in the transfer portal rankings, according to On3. With two years of eligibility remaining, Celiscar is carefully considering his next move.
Kentucky is aiming to land him as its first transfer addition of the offseason, which would provide a much-needed boost as the Wildcats look to rebuild their roster.
