ESPN REPORT: 5-Star RB Officially Commits To Auburn Tigers Over Alabama And Vols

Auburn Lands Elite Four-Star Running Back Myson Johnson-Cook in Major Recruiting Victory

The Auburn Tigers have secured a significant addition to their future backfield, landing a commitment from highly regarded four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook, one of the nation’s premier prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. Johnson-Cook announced his decision Saturday, giving Auburn a major recruiting victory and adding another blue-chip talent to the program’s rapidly developing class.

Johnson-Cook had long been viewed as Auburn’s top running back target for the 2027 cycle, making his commitment a particularly important win for head coach Alex Golesh and his staff. The standout prospect chose the Tigers over several prominent programs, including the Miami Hurricanes, Ole Miss Rebels, LSU Tigers, and Kentucky Wildcats.

Auburn first entered Johnson-Cook’s recruitment in May 2025 when the program extended him a scholarship offer. From that point forward, the Tigers prioritized him heavily, and the new coaching staff intensified their efforts once they arrived on campus. Their persistence ultimately paid off after building a strong relationship with the talented Illinois prospect throughout the recruiting process.

Johnson-Cook made multiple visits to Auburn during his recruitment, including two trips in 2026. His most recent visit came on April 10, which proved to be his final stop before announcing his commitment to the Tigers. That visit reportedly helped solidify Auburn’s standing and convinced Johnson-Cook that the program was the right fit for his future.

Regarded as one of the top overall players in the country, Johnson-Cook carries elite national rankings across recruiting services. According to the Rivals industry rankings, he is rated as the No. 50 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 running back in the class, and the No. 3 player from the state of Illinois. His ranking makes him one of the most coveted offensive recruits Auburn has landed in recent memory.

With his pledge, Johnson-Cook becomes the highest-rated commitment in Auburn’s current 2027 recruiting class. He joins fellow four-star prospects Donivan Moore, a defensive lineman, and Georgia Lamons, a tight end, giving the Tigers three highly touted recruits in the class so far.

Auburn’s recruiting momentum continues to build as a result. The Tigers’ 2027 class is currently ranked No. 12 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC according to Rivals, signaling strong early progress for Golesh and his staff as they attempt to construct one of the conference’s top recruiting groups.

Johnson-Cook’s commitment is backed by outstanding production on the field. The East St. Louis High School standout is coming off a dominant junior season in which he established himself as one of the most explosive playmakers in the Midwest. In 12 games, he rushed for 1,341 yards and scored 20 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 10.6 yards per carry.

His combination of speed, vision, and big-play ability has made him one of the nation’s most sought-after running backs, and Auburn believes he has the potential to become a difference-maker at the collegiate level.

Landing Johnson-Cook gives Auburn a cornerstone offensive piece for the future and further reinforces the staff’s recruiting momentum on the national trail. With one of the country’s best running back prospects now committed, the Tigers have added another foundational building block as they continue shaping their 2027 class.
