ESPN REPORT: Just In, 5-Star Forward Officially Commits Auburn Tigers Basketball After rejecting Alabama, the Vols, and Kentucky

Auburn Officially Adds Troy Transfer Thomas Dowd to 2026-27 Roster

Steven Pearl and the Auburn men’s basketball program have strengthened their 2026-27 roster with the addition of experienced forward Thomas Dowd, who has officially signed with the Tigers after transferring from Troy University.

Dowd arrives at Auburn as a senior following a highly productive three-year run with the Trojans, where he established himself as one of the most consistent and versatile forwards in the Sun Belt Conference. Over 99 career appearances at Troy, the Dothan, Alabama native compiled 1,010 points and 747 rebounds while becoming a key piece of the program’s success.

His breakout junior campaign was especially impressive, as he averaged 14.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while recording 17 double-doubles on the season. That performance earned him First Team All-Sun Belt recognition and elevated him into one of the most sought-after forwards in the transfer portal.

Pearl praised Auburn’s newest addition and emphasized the impact Dowd can bring to the Tigers immediately.

“We are thrilled to welcome Thomas Dowd and his family to Auburn,” Pearl said. “Thomas comes from a large family with strong Auburn connections, making this an incredible fit for both sides. One of the biggest things we value is whether a player makes his teammates better when he’s on the floor, and for Thomas, that answer is clearly yes. He impacts winning in every aspect of the game.”

Dowd’s all-around ability was on full display throughout last season, including a signature performance in Troy’s upset road victory over San Diego State University when he erupted for 25 points and 19 rebounds in one of the best games of his career.

He also played a major role in leading Troy to the Sun Belt Tournament championship, earning Tournament MVP honors in the process as the Trojans secured a No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

At 6-foot-8, Dowd brings a versatile offensive game that fits Auburn’s modern style of play. He shot 44 percent from the field last season while also knocking down 65 three-pointers and converting 80 percent of his free-throw attempts, showing his ability to stretch defenses while remaining efficient around the basket.

Pearl believes Dowd’s offensive versatility will make him an ideal fit in Auburn’s system.

“Offensively, Thomas can impact the game from anywhere on the floor,” Pearl said. “He is a multi-level scorer who can attack the rim, finish through contact, and his three-point percentages don’t fully reflect how effective we believe he can be in our offense. He’s also an underrated passer who consistently makes the right play for his teammates.”

Dowd’s defensive versatility may be just as valuable. Pearl highlighted his ability to guard multiple positions, rebound at a high level, and protect the rim despite primarily playing on the wing.

Defensively, Auburn expects Dowd to slide seamlessly into its aggressive system thanks to his athleticism, motor, and ability to defend positions one through five.

With Dowd now officially in the fold, Auburn’s 2026-27 recruiting and transfer class continues to take shape. He joins a talented incoming group that includes Narcisse Ngoy, Bukky Oboye, Adam Olsen, Owen Freeman, and freshman guard Caleb Williams.

Dowd’s addition gives Auburn another experienced, battle-tested piece as the Tigers continue building a roster capable of competing at the highest level next season.
