Auburn’s Tahaad Pettiford Bids Farewell After Stellar Freshman Season, Declares for NBA Draft

The Auburn Tigers delivered a historic season, powered by standout performances from Naismith Player of the Year finalist Johni Broome and electrifying freshman Tahaad Pettiford.

With a program-best 32 wins, Auburn made a thrilling run to the Final Four, taking down Michigan State, Michigan, Creighton, and Alabama State along the way. Their championship hopes were dashed by eventual national champions, the Florida Gators, in a heartbreaking semifinal loss.

In the aftermath, several players began announcing their next steps—some entering the transfer portal, others setting their sights on the NBA.

Among them is Pettiford, one of the SEC’s top freshmen, who has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. He shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking head coach Bruce Pearl, his teammates, and the Auburn community.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for guiding me through every step of this journey,” Pettiford wrote. “I’m grateful to my parents, coaches, and teammates for their support. I wouldn’t be here without them.

Thank you to Auburn University, the alumni, staff, and fans. This past year has been the best of my life. I’m proud of what we accomplished.

Playing in the NBA has always been my dream, and I’m excited to test the waters and make the best decision for my future. No matter what happens, Auburn will always be home. And if I return… let’s run it back.

War Eagle!”
