Jon Scheyer was full of praise for freshman guard Cayden Boozer after the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball captured the ACC Tournament championship in an impressive postseason run.
Following Duke’s victory, Scheyer highlighted Boozer’s composure, maturity, and impact throughout the tournament, noting that the young guard continues to grow into an important part of the Blue Devils’ lineup.
“Cayden has been incredible,” Scheyer said after the game. “For a young player to step into this environment and perform with the poise that he has shown says a lot about his character and work ethic. He’s only scratching the surface of what he can become.”
Boozer, one of the most highly regarded young players in college basketball, played a significant role in Duke’s success during the tournament. His ability to control the pace, create opportunities for teammates, and make timely plays helped the Blue Devils navigate several tough matchups on their way to the title.
Scheyer also emphasized Boozer’s leadership qualities despite his age. According to the Duke coach, Boozer has quickly earned the trust of teammates and coaches thanks to his basketball IQ and willingness to compete in big moments.
“He’s fearless,” Scheyer added. “He wants the ball when it matters most, and that’s something you can’t teach. His confidence lifts the entire team.”
The championship win gives Duke added momentum heading into the postseason, as the Blue Devils look to make a deep run in the upcoming NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.
With young talents like Boozer continuing to develop, Scheyer believes the Blue Devils are only beginning to hit their stride at the right time.

“As a coach, it’s exciting to see a player like Cayden embrace the moment,” Scheyer said. “He’s worked incredibly hard, and tonight was another step forward for him and for our team.”
Duke’s ACC Tournament title further reinforces the program’s reputation as one of the premier teams in college basketball, and Boozer’s emergence could play a major role in how far the Blue Devils go in March.
