The Seattle Mariners have decided to part ways with a pitcher.
On Thursday, the team revealed that right-hander Ryan Loutos has been placed on unconditional release waivers.
This move indicates that Seattle does not plan to assign Loutos to its minor league system, opting instead to release him outright. As a result, he will become a free agent eligible to sign with any club—unless another team claims him off waivers first.
Loutos, a 27-year-old reliever standing 6-foot-5, originally went undrafted out of Division III Washington University in St. Louis.
He reached the major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024, posting a 0.00 ERA across three appearances.

In 2025, he saw action with both the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he recorded a 15.00 ERA in two games, and the Washington Nationals, where he logged a 12.00 ERA over 10 outings.
However, his performance in Triple-A that same year was far more encouraging, as he compiled a 3.50 ERA in 38 appearances.
After joining the Mariners during the offseason, Loutos struggled in Spring Training, posting an 18.00 ERA over four outings.
He has yet to pitch in a regular-season game this year at either the major or minor league level.
Now released, Loutos will look to find a new team.
For Seattle, the decision makes sense given the roster crunch and limited flexibility on their 40-man roster.
