RECRUIT ALERT: Kentucky Confirm To Land Another Top-Notch Fans Favorite As Moreno Replacement

Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball has renewed interest in Magoon Gwath, a center from San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball.

According to Tristan Pharis of KY Insider, Kentucky held a Zoom meeting with Gwath on Sunday. The level of mutual interest between the two sides remains uncertain, but the contact is significant given that Kentucky came close to recruiting him in 2025.

When the 7-foot, 210-pound center entered the transfer portal last offseason, Kentucky was considered a leading contender to sign him. However, Gwath ultimately chose to stay at San Diego State, and Kentucky later shifted its focus to Jayden Quaintance.

During his sophomore season, Gwath played in 25 games, starting 16 of them. He averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 19 minutes per game. Injuries affected his season, as he missed multiple conference games with a hip issue and also sat out the beginning of the season while recovering from knee surgery.

In his freshman year, Gwath started all 26 games he played, posting averages of 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in nearly 25 minutes per game.

Given his injury history and relatively modest scoring output, Kentucky would likely view Gwath as a backup option behind projected starter Malachi Moreno. Still, his shot-blocking ability could provide valuable rim protection for a Kentucky defense that needs improvement.
