Nolan Arenado Makes Final Big Decision Regarding Career with Cardinals

After months of speculation surrounding his future, star third baseman Nolan Arenado has made his final decision: he will remain with the St. Louis Cardinals for the long term, putting to rest any rumors of a possible trade or retirement.

In a press conference at Busch Stadium this afternoon, the 34-year-old Arenado reaffirmed his commitment to the Cardinals, announcing that he has exercised the final player option in his contract, ensuring he stays with St. Louis through at least the 2027 season.

“This city, this team — they mean everything to me,” Arenado told reporters. “I’ve made a lot of tough decisions in my career, but this one was easy. I want to finish what we started and bring another championship to St. Louis.”

Arenado’s decision comes amid a rocky 2025 season for the Cardinals, who have dealt with internal struggles and a crowded National League race. Despite the challenges, Arenado has continued to deliver All-Star caliber production, batting .284 with 18 home runs and 59 RBIs through the first month of the season.

Sources close to Arenado indicated that loyalty to the Cardinals organization, his strong relationship with fans, and a desire to cement his legacy in one city played key roles in his decision. Front office leaders, including John Mozeliak, expressed strong support for Arenado’s choice, calling him “the heart and soul of the franchise.”

“Nolan’s leadership, both on and off the field, is something you can’t put a price on,” Mozeliak said. “Knowing he’s committed to our future is a tremendous boost for this team and our fans.”

Arenado originally joined the Cardinals in a blockbuster trade from the Colorado Rockies before the 2021 season. Since then, he’s won multiple Gold Glove awards and established himself as one of the Cardinals’ defining stars of the era.

With this decision made, Arenado and the Cardinals now shift focus fully onto chasing postseason success — with their cornerstone player firmly in place.
