USC Transfer Praises Auburn’s Offensive Line, Believes in National Potential
When Hugh Freeze took over as Auburn’s head coach a few years ago, one of his top priorities was revamping the Tigers’ offensive line. Since then, Auburn has steadily upgraded its talent in the trenches through high school recruiting and transfer portal additions.
One of the most notable additions this offseason is former USC offensive lineman Mason Murphy. After four years with the Trojans, where he developed into a multi-year starter, Murphy decided to enter the transfer portal and announced his commitment to Auburn in December 2024.
Now serving as the projected starting right tackle, Murphy has been working through spring practices with his new teammates. Despite some injuries affecting overall depth this spring, Murphy is optimistic about the offensive line’s future.
“I’ve been fortunate to play college football for a while now,” Murphy told Auburn Undercover. “I’ve been in some great offensive line rooms, but this group here at Auburn is one of the most talented I’ve been a part of. Practicing and watching film with these guys has been a lot of fun—they’re not just good players, but good people, too. It’s an inspiring group to be around.”
Murphy didn’t hold back when asked about the potential of Auburn’s offensive front, offering a confident outlook on what the unit could achieve.
“We can definitely win the Joe Moore Award,” he said. “I truly think we have the most talented offensive line in the country. It all comes down to playing with discipline, mastering our technique, and stepping onto the field with the right mindset.”
Auburn will continue spring practices leading up to April 12, when the team will host a free, open practice at Jordan-Hare Stadium for fans and the public.
