JUST IN: St. Louis Star Considered Major Trade Piece Ahead of 2025 Deadline

Cardinals’ $260 Million Star Seen as Top Trade Asset for 2025 Season

Nolan Arenado, the St. Louis Cardinals’ veteran third baseman, was heavily discussed in trade rumors this past offseason. While a deal never materialized—largely due to his hefty contract and full no-trade clause—trade speculation around the $260 million superstar hasn’t gone away.

According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Arenado remains one of the top potential trade assets heading into this season, especially if he continues his hot start.

“Arenado was nearly dealt multiple times during the offseason,” Miller wrote. “He’s a 10-time Gold Glove winner, eight-time All-Star, six-time Platinum Glove recipient, and five-time Silver Slugger. He’s earning $21 million this season, with $16 million due in 2026 and $15 million in 2027. And even at nearly 34 years old, he’s still producing—starting 2025 with a six-game hitting streak and a 1.109 OPS.”

While it’s unrealistic to expect him to maintain that pace all year, even a moderate rebound from his rough 2024 campaign could make him a prime target for contenders.

Despite being linked to teams like the Yankees and Tigers, Arenado has reportedly not waived his no-trade clause for those clubs. However, he has shown openness to potential moves to the Los Angeles Angels or Dodgers—teams that could become serious trade partners if St. Louis is willing to absorb some of his remaining salary.
