“Simple Lineup Change Could Solve New York Rangers’ Defensive Struggles”
K’Andre Miller has been struggling recently, while Carson Soucy has quietly been one of the Rangers’ more consistent defensemen. With just seven games left in the regular season and the Rangers fighting for a playoff spot, swapping their positions in the defensive lineup could provide a much-needed spark. Currently, Soucy is performing well alongside Adam Fox, but his solid, more conservative style might not be aggressive enough for a top pairing role. Moving him to the second pairing with Will Borgen would free up Fox to focus on the top pairing.
Meanwhile, Miller, who is more offensive-minded, could benefit from reuniting with Fox, as they showed good chemistry earlier in the season. Pairing these two young defensemen on the top line could provide the necessary boost for both players to grow. This switch could help stabilize the defensive pairings, allowing Soucy and Borgen to support the top pairing, and ultimately, strengthen the team’s chances of making the playoffs. Head coach Peter Laviolette will need to make bold adjustments to address the defensive issues, even if the team is winning.
