Patrick Mahomes’ Former Teammate Explains Why the Bills Can Finally Beat the Chiefs
Since Josh Allen’s breakout MVP-caliber season in 2020, the Buffalo Bills have been chasing two key goals: winning their first Super Bowl and finally overcoming Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.
Year after year, Buffalo has fallen short, suffering crushing postseason defeats at the hands of Mahomes and the Chiefs. Since the 2021 playoffs, Kansas City has eliminated the Bills four times in five seasons, keeping them from reaching the Super Bowl.
Buffalo made a major move in 2022 by signing Von Miller, hoping he would be the missing piece to help them get past the Chiefs. However, that plan didn’t pan out, leading to Miller’s release this offseason. In response, the Bills sought another dominant pass rusher and landed Joey Bosa on a one-year, $12.6 million deal in free agency. Coming from the Los Angeles Chargers, Bosa joins a team hungry for a championship after another heartbreaking AFC Championship loss to Kansas City.
Ex-Chiefs Player Reveals Why Buffalo Can Finally Get Over the Hump
Former Chiefs safety Justin Reid, now with the New Orleans Saints, recently discussed the Bills’ addition of Bosa on the Good Morning Football podcast. He emphasized how a relentless pass rush is one of the few ways to slow down Mahomes, as demonstrated in the Super Bowl.
“He brings pressure, attitude, and tenacity—all the things that can cause problems,” Reid explained. With 72 career sacks, Bosa has built a reputation for disrupting offenses, and his presence in Buffalo could be a game-changer.
One of the biggest differences between Bosa and Miller is their playing style. Miller relies on finesse and creativity in his pass rush, while Bosa is a power rusher who can collapse the pocket by taking on blockers head-on. That type of presence is something the Bills have lacked in recent years.
Additionally, Bosa is no stranger to the Chiefs, having faced them twice a year for nearly a decade in the AFC West. His experience against Mahomes gives Buffalo a valuable edge. If the Bills and Chiefs meet again in the playoffs, Bosa could be the difference-maker—the player who finally helps Buffalo break through and eliminate Kansas City on their way to the Super Bowl.
