JUST IN: NY Rangers Forward Issues Frustration And Confirms He wants to Leave

The forward was a healthy scratch for the New York Rangers in their 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. The rookie, still searching for his first NHL point after 14 games, was known for his scoring ability in junior hockey and the AHL.

“I hold myself to a high standard, and I’m disappointed I haven’t been able to contribute more,” he told Mollie Walker of the New York Post after Tuesday’s practice.

The 22-year-old forward is expected to develop into a top-six producer, but since being called up on Feb. 25, he has primarily played on the fourth line alongside enforcer Matt Rempe (6-foot-9) and hardworking forward Jonny Brodzinski.

“Right now, it’s about earning Lavi’s trust and the coaching staff’s trust,” Brennan Othmann said. “Being in the lineup consistently is the focus. Once that’s established, then I can worry about scoring. Right now, I just want to focus on playing—getting to the net more and gaining confidence with the puck.”

He emphasized his desire to handle the puck more and improve his decision-making. “When I have the puck, I make smart plays, find open lanes, and create chances. I just need to be more patient and confident with it.”

As the Rangers fight for a playoff spot, their bottom-six forwards have been frequently rotated. With Othmann out of the lineup, New York struggled offensively, managing just 13 shots while being heavily outplayed by Calgary.
