Cooper Flagg Stuns with Surprising Decision on NBA Draft
Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils looked to have a spot in the Final Four locked in, leading Houston for most of the game. However, a collapse in the final minute of the game resulted in a disappointing end to Duke’s 2024-25 season. The Blue Devils failed to score in the last 1:13, and Houston capitalized with a 9-0 run in the final 33 seconds to secure the victory. Now, Duke is preparing for significant changes ahead of the 2025-26 season. Flagg, along with Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach, is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. Flagg, however, is widely regarded as the favorite to go No. 1 after an impressive freshman season in which he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
Late Friday, Flagg appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter to discuss his freshman year at Duke. When asked about his next steps in his basketball journey, Flagg gave an unexpected response, revealing that it could take him up to a month to make a decision regarding his NBA future, despite being a potential No. 1 pick. “I think just like you said, I need time to evaluate and reflect,” Flagg shared. “It’s been an incredible year, I’ve met so many amazing people and built lifelong relationships. Now it’s time to step back and reflect. I’ll take a few days, maybe a week, or even a month. I’ll talk to my parents, my coaches, and really figure out what’s best for me.”
Flagg, a consensus All-American in his sole season at Duke, is the top choice for the No. 1 pick in many mock drafts. The Washington Wizards, Utah Jazz, and Charlotte Hornets currently have the highest odds for the top pick. Should Flagg return to Duke, he would play alongside the highly touted Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden, who are among the top prospects in the 2025 class (247 Sports).
