Clemson basketball has secured its third transfer commitment of the week, continuing a busy recruiting period. Head coach Brad Brownell has already signed two of the three players he hosted last weekend from the transfer portal. While he missed out on Cooper Schwieger from Valparaiso, who committed to Wake Forest, he successfully landed Nick Davidson from Nevada and Carter Wellin from Utah Valley.
Wellin, a 6-foot-10 forward, made his commitment official on Friday afternoon. He had a standout sophomore season at Utah Valley, averaging 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, while shooting 48% from the field and 35% from three-point range. Previously, as a freshman at UC Irvine, he averaged 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in limited playing time.
Wellin is expected to play the four alongside Davidson, who could potentially play the five, while fellow transfer RJ Godfrey (from Georgia) takes the three spot. Dillon Hunter, another transfer, can play either guard position, but the next priority for Brownell is adding a ball-handling guard or shot creator.
With the starting five taking shape, Brownell has had a strong offseason so far. There are still a couple of spots left to fill on the roster, with four returning players, three freshmen, and three transfers already on board. It will be interesting to see how Brownell finishes off his recruiting efforts.
