JUST IN: Bills Trade Proposal Lands New ‘Playmaker’ for Josh Allen

Bills Trade Idea Could Bring Explosive New Weapon to Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills have shown a willingness to move up the draft board in recent years, having made bold first-round trades in two of the last three NFL drafts. One analyst thinks the team could be ready to do it again—this time, to add a new offensive weapon for Josh Allen.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter has the Bills trading up a few spots in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Matthew Golden, a speedy wide receiver from Texas seen as one of the top playmakers in this year’s class.

Bills Could Target Texas Speedster

Reuter’s mock draft suggests Buffalo will jump from the No. 30 overall pick to No. 26, a modest trade-up that could cost them a fourth-round pick and land them a dynamic deep threat.

“Buffalo needs a true downfield weapon in this draft,” Reuter wrote. “Whether it’s Golden or his Texas teammate Isaiah Bond, either could be a great fit.”

Golden turned heads with a blistering 4.29-second 40-yard dash, and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein praised his mix of speed and physicality. While Golden’s route-running still needs polish, his burst, body control, and ability to make contested catches give him serious upside.

“He’s capable of lining up at any receiver spot,” Zierlein wrote. “He made big strides as a go-to target in 2024, and his traits could help him grow into a No. 1 option.”

Despite recent investment in Khalil Shakir, the Bills still lack a clear-cut WR1 after trading Stefon Diggs and letting Gabe Davis walk in free agency.

Other Receiver Options in the Draft

Buffalo could also explore other wide receiver prospects in the draft. Sports Illustrated’s Ronnie Eastham suggested Jayden Higgins out of Iowa State as a strong candidate. At 6’5″ and 214 pounds, Higgins offers size and athleticism, running a 4.47 40-yard dash and bringing down contested catches with ease.

“He’s not just a red-zone threat—he can get downfield and win jump balls,” Eastham wrote. “In 2024, he racked up 87 receptions for 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns.”

With multiple pass-catchers gone—including Mack Hollins and potentially Amari Cooper, who is now a free agent—the Bills are expected to continue spreading the ball around. But they’ll still need to restock their receiving corps, and finding a versatile playmaker through the draft could be the missing piece.

General manager Brandon Beane has kept the door open to bringing Cooper back, but either way, Buffalo is clearly in the market for a new threat—and moving up for a player like Golden could be their next big swing.
