The Buffalo Bills face a major gap on their defensive line following Von Miller’s departure and two unexpected suspensions. However, one insider suggests they could address the issue with a blockbuster trade.
Buffalo released Miller in a cap-saving move but has left the door open for his potential return on a restructured contract. Meanwhile, the team also lost recently acquired defensive linemen Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi, who each received six-game suspensions for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Bills Target Trey Hendrickson in Proposed Trade
To reinforce their pass rush, the Bills already signed Joey Bosa to a one-year, $12.6 million deal. However, Jarrett Bailey of The Sporting News suggests they could further strengthen their defense by trading for Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.
Hendrickson has requested a trade, and Bailey proposes the Bills could land him by offering three draft picks: their 2024 second-round pick (No. 56), a 2024 fifth-rounder (No. 175), and a 2026 third-round selection.
This move would provide insurance if Bosa struggles with injuries, allowing Buffalo to manage his workload for the postseason push.
“I understand Buffalo just extended Greg Rousseau and signed Joey to a one-year deal. However, acquiring Hendrickson gives you three havoc play-makers off the edge,” Bailey wrote. “Plus, there is no guarantee Bosa will be healthy all season, and having him in a more supportive role—like a baseball closer—would better suit him and the Bills.”
Though Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team notes that trade interest in Hendrickson has declined, he also points out that the Bengals might hesitate to send him to a direct AFC competitor like Buffalo.
Bills Keeping Options Open
Beyond a trade, the Bills may still consider bringing back Miller. General manager Brandon Beane told reporters that the team remains open to a reunion, stating, “We just decided where the salary was to take a step back. We never closed the door, whether it’s now or later in the spring or in-season.”
With multiple options on the table, Buffalo’s front office will need to decide how to best reinforce their pass rush for the 2025 season.
