HUGE BLOW ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ The Mariners Suffer Another Terrible Injury Setback

The Seattle Mariners have placed shortstop J.P. Crawford on the 10-day injured list to begin the season, while pitcher Bryce Miller will start on the 15-day injured list as the team finalized its 26-man roster.

Crawford, 31, has been Seattleโ€™s Opening Day shortstop for seven consecutive years and is currently the longest-serving player on the team. He was limited during spring training due to a shoulder injury, appearing in just seven games and hitting .143 without any extra-base hits. Last season, he posted a .265 batting average with 12 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a .722 OPS.

With Crawford sidelined, Leo Rivas is expected to take over at shortstop. The 28-year-old previously served in a utility role, batting .244 with two home runs in limited appearances. Despite strong performances in spring training from top prospect Colt Emerson, the team opted to send him back to the minors.

Miller, 27, has been dealing with an oblique injury throughout spring training. He cut short a bullpen session two weeks ago after experiencing discomfort and has since remained at the teamโ€™s spring facility in Peoria to continue building strength. He has completed two bullpen sessions since then.

Earlier this year, Miller agreed to a one-year contract with the Mariners that includes a club option for 2027. Last season, he recorded a 4โ€“6 record with a 5.68 ERA in 18 starts and earned $800,000. He also missed time due to elbow inflammation but performed well in the postseason, going 1โ€“1 with a 2.51 ERA.

To fill Millerโ€™s spot in the rotation, Emerson Hancock will step in after making 16 starts last season with a 4.90 ERA.

Additionally, utility infielder Miles Mastrobuoni has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a calf injury sustained while representing Italy in the World Baseball Classic. He hit .250 with one home run and 12 RBIs last season in a part-time role.
