The 2022 Gatorade Missouri Basketball Player of the Year is returning home as Luke Northweather (Jefferson City, Mo.) signed to join University of Missouri men’s basketball on Wednesday.
A 6-foot-11 forward from Jefferson City, Northweather spent the last three seasons at Oklahoma, appearing in 55 games with 132 points and 82 rebounds.
“Luke has valuable high-major experience in both the SEC and Big 12 and we look forward to him joining our program,” said Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gates. “He is an accomplished player in the Show Me State and has a passion for Mizzou athletics. He has great shooting for his size and fits our system with his ability to stretch the floor.”
Northweather played in 30 games with the Sooners during the 2024-25 campaign, helping the team earn its first NCAA Tournament bid in four seasons. The redshirt sophomore played his best down the stretch for OU, averaging 4.3 points in 15.8 minutes per game over the final four contests, shooting 66.7 percent from the field. Overall, Northweather tallied 81 points and 44 rebounds, including a 17-of-50 clip from 3-point range (34.0 percent) – scoring in double figures in wins over Arizona and Texas.
Starring at Blair Oaks High School, Northweather earned Gatorade Missouri Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors after averaging 29.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.4 blocks and 2.0 steals per game as a senior. He led the Falcons to a 29-2 record and appearance in the district championship game, while finishing his high school career with a school-record 2,018 points.
Northweather, who redshirted the 2022-23 season at Oklahoma, has two years of eligibility remaining.
The second signee of the spring period, Northweather joins another Mid-Missouri product in Jevon Porter as addition to the Tigers’ 2024-25 roster. The duo joins a Mizzou program that posted three top-five wins last season for the first time since 1988-89, while finishing sixth in a SEC that earned a record 14 bids to the NCAA Tournament.
