Lincoln Riley Shares Promising Update on 5-Star USC QB Husan Longstreet
USC football’s first season in the Big Ten didn’t go as planned, but head coach Lincoln Riley and his staff have continued to bring in top-tier talent. One of the most highly anticipated recruits is quarterback Husan Longstreet, a standout from the 2025 class with the potential to become a key player for the Trojans.
Freshmen quarterbacks often spend their first season developing behind more experienced players, but Longstreet might be an exception. His early performances have already impressed the coaching staff.
“Lincoln Riley said that five-star freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet is ‘further ahead than most freshmen’ in his position,” reported Ryan Kartje.
While Longstreet is unlikely to start right away—especially with Jayden Maiava expected to lead the offense next season—his development is on the fast track. By learning under Maiava, he could position himself as USC’s quarterback of the future.

Longstreet was a five-star recruit in the 2025 class, ranked as the No. 32 overall player, the No. 4 quarterback, and the No. 3 prospect in California, according to 247Sports. He played at Centennial High School in Corona, CA, where he showcased his dynamic abilities.
Described as a “dual-threat quarterback with a cannon for an arm,” Longstreet excels at making difficult throws and has the athleticism to be a threat on the run. Scouts have noted his ability to fit passes into tight windows and his fearlessness in attacking defenses.
“In-person evaluations reinforce that he’s a unique, twitched-up athlete. He’s still refining his passing game and working on becoming a more efficient distributor, but his raw talent is undeniable,” reads his scouting report.
While he still has areas to improve—such as decision-making and ball security—his natural ability makes him an exciting prospect for USC’s future.
The Future of Longstreet at USC
Injuries impacted parts of Longstreet’s high school career, but his competitive spirit and resilience have stood out. Although his senior season had some inconsistency, his ceiling remains high.
“Had his moments early in senior year against strong competition, but accuracy fluctuated and he struggled with turnovers,” the scouting report noted. “However, he’s a gifted athlete with a powerful arm and the ability to make big plays.”
With Longstreet now in USC’s system, the future looks bright for the Trojans. If he continues to progress under Riley’s guidance, he could become a game-changing quarterback in the years to come.
