A Legacy Cast in Bronze — Bills to Unveil New Statue Honoring Franchise Icon Josh Allen
The Buffalo Bills are cementing a legend in team history—this time, quite literally. In a momentous announcement Friday morning, the franchise revealed plans to unveil a statue of quarterback Josh Allen outside Highmark Stadium, forever honoring the signal-caller who helped redefine modern Bills football.
The statue, scheduled to be unveiled during the 2025 home opener, will commemorate Allen’s legacy as the face of the franchise, a fan-favorite, and one of the NFL’s most electrifying quarterbacks. This marks the fourth statue at the stadium, joining club greats Jim Kelly, Ralph Wilson Jr., and Thurman Thomas.
“There are moments and players that shift the trajectory of a franchise,” said team president Ron Raccuia. “Josh Allen is one of those players. This statue is about honoring not just what he’s done, but what he’s meant to this city, this fanbase, and the culture of Buffalo football.”
A Quarterback Who Changed Everything
Drafted seventh overall in 2018, Allen arrived with questions but quickly silenced doubters. By 2020, he had led the Bills to their first AFC Championship Game in over 25 years and hasn’t looked back since. With a rare blend of size, athleticism, and arm strength, Allen rewrote franchise record books and rekindled belief in a team long-starved for postseason success.
Over seven seasons, Allen has accumulated over 25,000 passing yards, 200 touchdowns, and more than 4,500 rushing yards, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors. But beyond statistics, it’s Allen’s fierce competitive drive and undeniable bond with the community that have solidified his place as a Buffalo icon.
“I don’t play for statues or headlines—I play for my teammates and this city,” Allen said in a brief statement. “But to be recognized like this, in the place that gave me everything, it’s surreal. Buffalo is my home.”
A Fan-Fueled Tribute
The statue will be crafted by nationally renowned sculptor Brian Hanlon, who also designed the Jim Kelly and Ralph Wilson monuments. Standing nearly 9 feet tall, the statue will depict Allen mid-scramble, with his signature ball-tuck and laser-focused eyes downfield—capturing both the chaos and confidence he brings to every play.
Fans were heavily involved in the process, with the Bills conducting a poll last fall asking which moment defined Allen’s career. The winning image, a tribute to his legendary 2022 playoff duel with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, inspired the statue’s final pose.
The unveiling ceremony will take place the morning of the home opener and feature Allen himself, along with past and present Bills players, alumni, and special guests. A limited number of VIP fan tickets will be made available via a lottery system later this summer.
“This is more than a statue,” said head coach Sean McDermott. “It’s a reminder that greatness is something we’ve witnessed, and it’s still unfolding. Josh Allen isn’t just a quarterback—he’s a symbol of what Buffalo stands for.”
