Dolphins Reportedly Contact Veteran CB with 19 Career Interceptions
Despite a productive 2025 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins still have an obvious hole to fill at cornerback. To address it, the team has reportedly reached out to a veteran defender known for his knack for creating turnovers.
Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami has been in contact with former Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas. Douglas, who turns 30 before the 2025 season kicks off, is an experienced starter with a strong track record.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Douglas has played for several teams but truly established himself as a starter after joining the Green Bay Packers. He was later traded to the Bills in 2023 for a third-round pick and started 23 games over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Although he struggled in 2024, he remains an intriguing free agent who could bolster Miami’s secondary.
Douglas had a standout season in 2023, allowing just a 38.6 passer rating when targeted and recording four interceptions in only nine games for Buffalo. Over his career, Douglas has notched 19 interceptions, recording at least four picks in each season from 2021 through 2023.
Primarily an outside corner, Douglas would address a significant need for the Dolphins, especially with ongoing trade speculation involving Jalen Ramsey. However, his performance declined sharply in 2024, surrendering 43 catches on 59 targets for 518 yards and four touchdowns, allowing a 122.0 passer rating.
Given his recent struggles, Douglas is unlikely to command a high salary and would likely sign a short-term deal. Signing him also wouldn’t impact the Dolphins’ compensatory pick for losing Jevon Holland in free agency.
With cornerback remaining the Dolphins’ biggest post-draft concern, Douglas could be a low-risk, high-upside addition to the roster, perfectly fitting the team’s current needs.
