Normally, we delve deeper into the most recent Browns game with our “3 Big Takeaways” analysis. Today, as the Browns enter the bye with a 5-3 record, we’re using it to consider how they arrived to this stage in the season.
The Browns’ 5-3 first-half record in 2020 was not something they were prepared to consider following their dismal loss to the Raiders on Sunday.
The players in Cleveland, especially Baker Mayfield, think their squad is capable of more than what their current record suggests. They claimed that the team’s performance on Sunday, when the defence was unable to get off the field and the offence struggled to produce much consistency, did not represent their potential.
They’ve watched both sides of the ball play so much better, so it was a disappointed group. In each of their last five victories, an offensive unit has scored more than thirty points. They’ve witnessed an astute defence that causes more game-altering turnovers than it does to make up for its inefficiency on third and fourth downs.
Teller made it to finally meet Joe Thomas face-to-face. The previous year, COVID protocols prevented him from doing so. This week, the future Hall of Fame left tackle has been in Berea, Ohio, doing work for NFL Network.
Upon meeting Thomas, Teller introduced himself as a “almost fan girl” and cut off the legendary Browns player from speaking with Joel Bitonio, his former teammate.
“When I approached Joe, I said, ‘Hey, nice to meet you.'” “Hi Wyatt, it’s good to meet you too.” He is a fount of information, Teller said. He’s a really great man. He’s got humour. He is humorous in a good way. It’s a pleasure to be around him.
Teller wouldn’t mind spending his entire career in Cleveland, as would Thomas.
“Your mindset is you want to stay,” he said. “I don’t want to leave. I love my house. I love the city. I love the community. But that’s the business side.”
He’s very familiar with the business side. He remembers Bills head coach Sean McDermott texting him after he was traded to check in and make sure he was doing OK. That’s the personal side.
