The Texas Tech football team defeated California 34–14 in the Independence Bowl on Saturday to wrap up the season.

 

December has been a hectic month for Tech head coach Joey McGuire and his team. They were updating the 2024 roster through player arrivals and departures on the NCAA transfer portal in addition to getting ready for the bow

 

l.The NCAA transfer portal is open from Dec. 4 through Jan. 2 and again from April 16-30. That’s for players without a degree. Players who have graduated may have their names entered into the transfer portal at any time.

 

The portal is a database that offers a way to connect for players wanting to transfer and coaches from other programs looking for help.

The last two seasons were spent by 6-foot-2, 307-pound player Hansen at Nevada. In all, he recorded 27 tackles, 6 for a loss of yardage, and 2 sacks throughout that period. He spent one year at Utah State, where he redshirted and made no appearances in games, after starting his college career at Riverside Community College. His hometown is Fontana, California. After registering on the transfer portal in early December, he still has one year remaining in his eligibility.

The 6-foot-4, 304-pound lineman has started 25 straight games for Middle Tennessee State, a Conference USA team that finished 4-8 this year, during the previous two seasons. After completing his high school education in Sumter, South Carolina, Porcher played for Iowa Western in 2020 and 2021, helping the team advance to the NJCAA playoff final game in 2021. Porcher received scholarship offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Syracuse, Tech, and multiple group-of-five programmes after his name was added to the portal in late November.

Miller, a 242-pound tight end from Greensboro, North Carolina, attended Elon, a university in the state of North Carolina with an FCS programme, for three seasons. Miller grabbed 26 catches for 201 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, redshirted in 2021, and caught 25 passes this season for 453 yards and four touchdowns. On Saturday, he made his Texas Tech commitment.

 

Josh Kelly is a wide receiver from Fresno, California. He played for his home team Fresno State for four years before moving on to Washington State for this season, when he caught 61 catches for 923 yards and eight touchdowns, all career highs. Kelly is 6 feet one inch and 192 pounds. 52 receptions, 778 yards, and three touchdowns were his prior career bests, all set with Fresno State in 2021. Kelly gave the Red Raiders a commitment on Friday.
