Photos submitted to the court show that a defence attorney who argued that Fani Willis, the former boyfriend of Fulton County District Attorney, is not competent to prosecute Donald Trump, volunteered for his campaign.

In February, Ashleigh Merchant, the attorney representing one of Trump’s co-defendants in the Georgia election fraud case, gained notoriety for her acerbic cross-examination of Willis and her subsequent cross-examination of prosecutor Nathan Wade, the district attorney’s ex-boyfriend.

Under cross-examination and in court documents, Merchantโ€”who is the attorney for Michael Roman, Trump’s co-accusedโ€”suggested that Wade wasn’t qualified to prosecute the Georgia election fraud case and that Willis had only hired Wade because they were romantically involved.

Given that he is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, Trump has claimed that the prosecution is politically motivated and has entered a not guilty plea to all 13 of the accusations against him. Roman, a former member of Trump’s administration, has entered a not guilty plea to comparable allegations.

Willis and Wade have now submitted Facebook pages with Merchant endorsing Wade during his 2016 judicial campaign, in an increasingly acrimonious legal dispute.

Among them are images of Merchant campaigning on May 15, 2016, at the Marietta Greek Festival in Georgia.

Swipe for Nathan J. Wade! spreading the word while listening to great Greek music!” In the post, Merchant wrote. The front and back of her Wade campaign T-shirt are visible in her two images.

One week prior, on May 9, 2016, she penned an extensive post endorsing Wade.

She wrote, “Nathan is moral,” at the moment. “In his capacity as a judge, Nathan has proven he is able to uphold the law and be impartial and fair. As of right now, Nathan is a judge on the Associated Municipal Court. He was a judge on the Pro Hac State Court before. Experience Is Vital.

Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the trial of Trump, Roman, and thirteen other defendants in the Georgia election fraud case, received the Facebook posts from Willis’ office.

On Sunday, Newsweek sent an email to Willis’s office and used Facebook Messenger to reach out to Merchant for comment.
