The New York Rangers got a head start on offseason moves Wednesday, re-signing veteran forward to a two-year, two-way contract valued at $775,000 annually at the NHL level. The 30-year-old, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is staying in the fold after agreeing to his second such deal with the team — the first being signed on June 7, 2023.
Though Blidh has appeared in just one NHL game over the last two seasons, he’s played a key role with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. This season, he ranks second on the team in goals (17) and third in points (30), both career highs. His 80 penalty minutes are also third most on the squad.
Blidh has posted five multi-point games this season, including three two-goal performances. However, he’s currently on a scoring drought, with no goals and just four assists over his past 14 games.
Last NHL season, he suited up once for the Rangers in a 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on January 13, 2024, finishing without a point. Across his NHL career, Blidh has played 85 games for the Bruins, Avalanche, and Rangers, tallying 4 goals and 8 assists.
With Hartford officially out of the playoff race, Blidh and the Wolf Pack have five games remaining on their schedule.
