East Carolina has added an important piece to its secondary through the transfer portal, as former FIU cornerback Ashton Levells has officially committed to the Pirates. The move gives ECU an experienced defensive back with FBS starting experience as the program continues to reshape its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Levells arrives in Greenville after spending his collegiate career at Florida International, where he developed into a reliable presence in the Panthers’ defensive backfield. Known for his physicality and ability to stay tight in man coverage, Levells brings versatility to an ECU secondary that has emphasized speed and toughness under the current coaching staff.
During his time at FIU, Levells saw consistent snaps and flashed the ability to defend both perimeter receivers and slot targets. His experience against Conference USA competition is expected to translate well in the American Athletic Conference, where ECU faces several pass-heavy offenses each season.

For the Pirates, the addition of Levells comes at a critical time as the program looks to bolster depth and competition at cornerback. With departures and injuries impacting the secondary in recent seasons, ECU’s staff has been aggressive in the transfer portal, prioritizing players who can contribute immediately while also providing leadership in the locker room.
Levells is expected to enroll soon and participate in offseason workouts, giving him a chance to compete for a starting role heading into fall camp. His commitment marks another notable portal win for East Carolina as the Pirates continue to build momentum and address key needs on the defensive side of the ball.
