Deshaun Watson is now signed in to be the new coach o cleveland…..

While appearing as a guest on the ESPN programme “Get Up” on Friday morning, former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum decided to make a really outrageous trade proposition. Tannenbaum talked about the 1995 Cleveland Browns transfer of Deshaun Watson to the New York Giants while working as a player personnel assistant.

In exchange for Daniel Jones, the former general manager of the New York Jets stated he would give the Giants Watson and a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He then launched into his reasoning, claiming that both teams needed a QB reset.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and now Daniel Jones,

“If you’re the Cleveland Browns, you have DorianJoe Flacco,  Thompson-Robinson, and now 27-year-old Daniel Jones, who has a $36 million guarantee for the upcoming season and a tonne of flexibility going ahead. The Giants will receive a second-round selection and 29-year-old Deshaun Watson, who will earn $46 million annually over the next three years. I think the Giants need a quarterback who can make a major difference up front. ESPN’s Tannenbaum

This deal seems a little unexpected at first. Nevertheless, the more you consider it, the more absurd it seems. In actuality, there is zero potential gain in this kind of suggested trade for either team. The Giants would have $33.315 million in dead money after trading Jones. They would only save $13.79 million, which is insignificant compared to the total amount they would owe Watson.

Adding him would increase the dead money by an additional $46 million cap hit. A general manager would never be willing to trade quarterbacks and commit more than $79 million to the position in exchange for a second-round choice, but the Browns did once spend $16 million to add Nick Chubb as a quarterback.
