Packers’ Rashan Gary contract extension; 4 years, $107 million

WATERLOO, WI – A little bit of good news for a team that has lost four straight games came on Monday when Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Rashan Gary announced that he had agreed to a four-year contract extension.

Using social media, Gary revealed the four-year, $107 million extension, which came with a $34.6 million signing bonus.

Without disclosing the terms, the Packers announced the extension later on Monday.According to a person familiar with the matter who spoke with The Associated Press, Gary will be able to make $107 million by the end of the current contract, which extends through 2027, because he will receive an additional approximately $96 million in funding in addition to his $10.8 million salary for 2023. The team hasn’t disclosed the terms, so the person spoke to the AP under the condition of anonymity.

With this deal, one of the top overall picks in the draught commits to a long-term career with the struggling Packers (2-5). If Gary hadn’t accepted an extension, he would have been free to sign with any team after the season.

Gary, who turns 26 on December 3, has a team-high 4½ sacks despite playing few snaps in the early part of the season while recovering from an ACL tear. The Packers, who selected Gary out of Michigan with the 12th overall pick in the 2019 draught, have been his home team for the entire duration of his career.
