Braves Tipped to Acquire Star Red Sox Outfielder in Major Trade

With Jurickson Profar sidelined for 80 games due to a PED suspension—ruling him out for the rest of the regular season and postseason—the Atlanta Braves are in urgent need of outfield help. While Ronald Acuña Jr. is expected to return soon, the Braves will likely need more firepower in the outfield to remain competitive in 2025.

Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently projected that Atlanta could pull off a major trade with the Boston Red Sox to acquire breakout star Wilyer Abreu as a solution.

Braves Predicted To Land Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu In Blockbuster Trade - Newsweek

“Through the first eight games of 2025, Abreu has been one of MLB’s hottest hitters, slashing .500/.621/1.000 with three home runs,” Conahan noted. “The Red Sox don’t necessarily need to restock their farm system, so a trade might not be their priority. But given the Braves’ urgent need, they could put together a compelling offer.”

Although Abreu’s stellar performance is making a potential trade increasingly unlikely, the Braves might still be able to tempt Boston with a substantial package. A possible deal could include top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, MLB starter Bryce Elder, and perhaps a high-upside position player to sweeten the pot for the 25-year-old outfielder.
