Head coach Josh Heupel of the Tennessee Volunteers is entering his fourth season in the role. He received a contract extension last year that will keep him in Knoxville until 2029. After leading the Vols to an 8-4 regular season in 2023, he secured the No. 21 slot in the final College Football Playoff rankings with a 35-0 victory over Iowa in the Citrus Bowl. Due to SEC expansion, Tennessee and Vanderbilt will no longer finish second and third in the regular season every year, a tradition that dates back to 1983. The Lady Vols put a cap on the long-standing rivalry on Sunday in Nashville with an 86-61 victory.
Tennessee’s coach Kellie Harper declared, “This was a really good win versus a very scrappy Vanderbilt team.” “I felt our offensive efficiency was good. We were quite proud of our team, played the necessary defensive position, and obtained enough stops. We had, in my opinion, a terrific mindset, a terrific focus, and I believe it came through in the game.
The Lady Vols defeated Vanderbilt and Arkansas in their three games during the same week.
After a much-needed bye on Thursday, Tennessee will host LSU at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Centre on Sunday, February 25, at 12 p.m.
Harper stated, “It’s nice to follow that up with a bye week after three games in seven days.” “They require it. Coaches most likely require it. It’s necessary for our managers. Everyone is in agreement. With those three games, it has been an exhausting seven days. I asked them to rest and get better, but I also understood that they needed to return at this point. Being victorious heading into a bye week is a nice feeling.
