With Justin Fields, a former Chicago Bears first-round choice, being connected to the Pittsburgh Steelers, trade talks are intensifying. Adam Schefter of ESPN recently mentioned that a trade is a possibility and emphasised how much Mike Tomlin values Fields. The likelihood that Pittsburgh would acquire the dual-threat quarterback skyrocketed after that.
The Steelers are currently the overwhelming favourites to sign Fields as his next team, according to reputable bookmakers like NBC Sports Bet, Fanduel Sportsbook, and DraftKings Sportsbook. This relationship is growing even though Art Rooney II stated that they would consider a trade for a quarterback to be “unlikely.
It’s easy to understand why. Fields would immediately be an improvement over Kenny Pickett, and the former standout player for Ohio State would blend in perfectly with Arthur Smith’s wide zone offence, which features play-action bootlegs and simple reads (where he can take advantage of his athletic attributes). The Steelers could succeed if their quarterback performs well. They also have a solid defensive core and a respectable team overall.
The majority of other clubs searching for a quarterback in 2024 will investigate choices that are appropriate for their circumstances. Teams who need quarterbacks, like the Broncos and Raiders, may not be willing to forfeit draft capital after making trades for quarterbacks this summer. On the other hand, the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots might be better served selecting one of the top three signal-callers available in the 2024 NFL Draft.
To put it another way, there might not be much competition if Justin Fields is acquired in a trade. What would be the price for the Steelers to pursue him throughout the offseason?
At quarterback, Fields would undoubtedly be an immediate improvement over Kenny Pickett, who has only 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 25 games (24 starts). Along with his exceptional mobility, Fields possesses exceptional arm strength to cut through the wind. He has been able to keep the Bears in games that they had no business being in because to his ability to prolong plays.
Fields would need to reduce his turnover rate because, when carrying the ball, he has a propensity to become careless and make too many bad choices. Still, the qualities cannot be disputed.
