Money Reportedly Delaying Aaron Rodgers-Steelers Deal as Minnesota Looms
Published: April 4, 2025 | By Nick Farabaugh
The reason Aaron Rodgers hasn’t signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers yet might come down to one key factor: money. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, financial terms appear to be the main roadblock in finalizing a deal.
“It’s usually about the money,” Russini explained. “Rodgers isn’t in a position where he has to accept a bargain deal. He knows the Steelers need him. While he might have considered a pay cut to join a team he views as a Super Bowl contender—like the Minnesota Vikings—this situation seems different. There’s a specific price tag that will satisfy Rodgers, and it’s unclear if Pittsburgh is willing to meet it yet.”
Adding to the speculation, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk shared that a high-ranking figure within an NFL organization suggested Rodgers may simply not want to play in Pittsburgh at all.
“This isn’t a report, just something I was told by a trusted source,” Florio said. “But their opinion was that Rodgers is actually holding out for the Vikings.”
While Minnesota has yet to completely close the door on Rodgers, they’ve shown faith in rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Still, Rodgers could serve as a temporary starter or mentor, making a potential Vikings move plausible.
Until a deal is made, the Steelers remain without a clear starting quarterback, and Rodgers’ next move continues to keep fans and teams on edge.
