As the league moves closer to the beginning of the new league year and free agency in March, the next stage of the offseason is drawing near. To strengthen their rosters for 2024, teams will try to sign new players or resign existing ones.

The new league year officially begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13, at which point 25 players on the Browns roster are scheduled to become free agents. Of those twenty-five players, twenty-four will be unrestricted free agents and one will have exclusive rights.

Let’s examine the players who are available to sign as free agents.

With Ford’s one-year contract, the Browns added a vital gunner on special teams and a depth guy at cornerback while they managed injuries. Ford had 28 total tackles at the end of the season, one interception, two passes deflected, and one fumble recovery.

The Browns traded for Smith in May 2023, and he made an immediate impact on the defensive line throughout the season. He had the second-most sacks on the team with 5.5 during the regular season, as well as three passes defended, one forced fumble, 27 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and 20 quarterback hits.

In his fourth season with the Browns, Elliott was a key piece for the defense on the interior. He started 14 of 17 games during the regular season, and finished the season with 2.5 sacks, 21 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits and one pass defended.

Hurst signed with the Browns for the 2023 season and added key depth at defensive tackle.Hurst’s season was cut short due to a pectoral injury that placed him on injured reserve in December. He played in 13 games and finished the season with one interception, three passes defended, 1.5 sacks, 22 total tackles, four tackles for loss and five quarterback hitting .

Harris joined the Browns in August after spending the 2022 season with the Seahawks and brought an immediate lift to the interior of their defensive line. Harris played in 17 games during the regular season – including seven starts – and recorded five passes defended, one forced fumble, 1.5 sacks, 28 total tackles, six tackles for loss and three quarterback hits.
