At the NFL Honours in Las Vegas on Thursday, Joe Flacco received the AP Comeback Player of the Year award, capping an unexpected but remarkable 2023 season.
Flacco was not on an NFL roster as the NFL’s 2023 season came to an end. While he was at home watching sports, he kept working on his throwing arm so that he would be prepared if the right moment came around.
Flacco completed 123 of 204 throws for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns in five regular-season games. Prior to Week 13, Flacco was the team’s backup quarterback; however, in that same week, against the Rams, he made his debut as a Brown.
Subsequently, he guided the Browns to four straight victories in December and enabled them to secure a postseason berth on Thursday Night Football in Week 17, their first since 2020.
As the season went on, nothing altered. That is, until Flacco received a call from Cleveland in the middle of November inviting him to try out for the Browns. QB Deshaun Watson of Cleveland stated on November 15 that he would miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury. Later, Flacco inked a contract to
