REPORT: the Detroit have officially started the season by …..

Brian Duker, the defensive backs coach, was the first assistant coach hired by the Detroit Lions after the previous season. On social media, though, Lions supporters didn’t appear overly offended by it.

On February 10, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that Duker will be joining the Miami Dolphins coaching staff in 2024.

According to a source, Pelissero wrote, “The Dolphins are hiring Brian Duker as their secondary coach/pass game coordinator.” “Duker played for the Lions for the previous three seasons, most recently as Des coach.

The consensus on X (previously Twitter) was that Detroit won’t suffer a significant loss in losing Duker.

Lucas Thomas wrote, “Hiring off the Lions secondary is crazy.”

Spliff just shared a gif of himself chuckling, seemingly suggesting that he thought it was humorous that the Dolphins hired Duker

Duker’s promotion is essentially the reason he’s moving to South Florida. The Dolphins are adding pass game coordinator to Pelissero’s title, as he mentioned. Duker will hold a role technically above a position coach for the first time.

In 2015, he interned with the Cleveland Browns as a defensive intern before starting his coaching career. In 2016, Duker worked as a defensive analyst with the 49ers in San Francisco.

After a year away from the NFL, Duker joined the Baltimore Ravens staff as a defensive assistant and coaching analyst. He remained in that role for three seasons until joining the Lions.

Duker steadily rose the coaching rankings in three seasons with the Lions. He served as a defensive assistant coach in 2021 and then safeties coach in 2022. He became the team’s defensive backs coach for 2023.

Some Lions fans celebrated Duker’s departure likely because of the team’s defensive performance against the pass in 2023. The Lions finished 27th in pass defense and 29th in net yards allowed per pass attempt last season.

Worst secondary in the league,” Molson Ice wrote on X in response to Duker joining the Dolphins.
