A small plane crashes into a California intersection and strikes a car, killing the pilot and injuring the driver.
Authorities say that the makeshift RV-6 crashed near Concord Avenue and Diamond Boulevard in Concord at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time. Tuesday’s handmade aircraft crash into an intersection in Concord, California, claimed the life of its pilot.

During the collision, the plane struck one automobile, resulting in “minor injuries” to the driver, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
Witnesses reported to nearby Buchanan Field Airport that they observed the aircraft in distress just before it crashed.

There was one fatality. When a tiny plane struck a car in California on Tuesday and collided with an intersection, several people were hurt.

According to a press release from the Concord Police Department, crews were called to the scene of the incident approximately 10:30 a.m. local time. The crash occurred along Concord Avenue and Diamond Boulevard.

The pilot was hurt when the aircraft, which the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District identified as a Van’s RV-6, “struck a vehicle on the roadway” and went down.

The CPD reports that the pilot of the aircraft was declared dead at the spot. According to Contra Costa County Fire, the car’s driver had “minor injuries” and was sent to a nearby hospital.

According to ABC affiliate KABC-TV, Contra Costa Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Platt stated that the aircraft “had just taken off” from the adjacent Buchanan Field Airport prior to the collision. A short while later, the jet apparently made a “abrupt” nose dive.

According to the Van’s Aircraft website, the handmade RV-6 was first offered for sale in 1986 and rapidly “became the best-selling kit aircraft to date.” The RV-7, an upgraded model, was introduced in 2001.

People asked Van’s Aircraft for comment, but they didn’t get back to them right away.

Before the aircraft crashed, several witnesses claimed to have seen it having problems. When Darrell Victor observed the plane “sputtering” directly overhead while he was golfing, he told NBC affiliate KNTV.

Victor said, “He started to turn, and we were hoping he could glide back, but he just started coming down, and we started running.”

Before the jet crashed, Alex Williams claimed to have heard it “stop and stall” in the air, speaking to CBS affiliate KPIX. Before Wayne Edwards watched the plane drop “straight down,” he claimed to have heard popping sounds and then heard a “boom.

Edwards said that the pilot, whose identity has not been made public, frequently carried out feats in the air. He clarified, “I’ve seen him doing stunts for years.”
