As Gary O’Neil steps up his hunt for firepower, Wolverhampton Wanderers are putting up a late move for Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto.
Before the transfer deadline, Wolves is beginning to take a serious interest in Alberto, 22, and they have suggested a loan deal that would last until the end of the current campaign.
Wolves are in negotiations with Corinthians for forward Yuri Alberto. Wolves is attempting to work out a loan arrangement for the Brazilian because time is of the essence during this window and money are limited.
Wolves’ head coach, Sean O’Neill, is keen to bring in a “No 9” goalscorer during the January transfer window, and the team is currently in negotiations with Corinthians on a possible agreement.
This month, Wolves has also given consideration to Hugo Ekitike of Paris St-Germain and Danny Ings of West Ham. Meanwhile, the London club has turned down a request by Wolves to recruit Chelsea forward Armando Broja on a straight loan.
Wolves are attempting to work out a loan arrangement for Alberto because time is running out and funds are limited because of worries about potential future violations of the Profitability & Sustainability Rules [PSR}].
Alberto scored ten goals and provided seven assists for Corinthians in all competitions in the 2022–2023 season.
After making an impression while on loan from Zenit St. Petersburg, he signed a permanent contract with the Brazilian powerhouses last year.
In a friendly match against Morocco last year, he also made his debut for the national squad.
Last summer, Alberto was connected to West Ham, and representatives of Corinthians stated he declined a chance to sign with David Moyes’ squad.
Brazil has proven to be a fruitful recruiting destination for Wolves, as seen by their recent £15 million acquisition of highly regarded midfield player Joao Gomes from Flamengo. The forward Matheus Cunha, who joined from Atletico Madrid last year, is also a member of the Brazil national team.
Wolves may think about loaning out young attacker Nathan Fraser and midfielder Joe Hodge if their attempt to sign Alberto is successful.
Last week, O’Neill acknowledged that it has been challenging to find the perfect player during this window due to budgetary constraints.
“We need to select players who are deserving of the chance to represent Wolves and who can contribute to the team,” he stated.
Prices can be exaggerated in January, so be cautious. We’ll make do with what we have if we can’t find somebody who can assist us, which is OK.
Mario Lemina’s teenage brother, Noha, is set to join Wolves on a loan with a buyout option worth approximately £1.7 million.
On Thursday, the team plays its first home Premier League matchup against Manchester United.
