Up to date big board, trades, headlines, and players to keep an eye on before Thursday

Ahead of the deadline on February 8, check back here to stay up to date on all the latest trade market news from The Athletic’s NBA reporters.

NBA trade deadline for 2024 is February 8 at 3 p.m. ET. The NBA trading window will still be open because a few veterans will accept contract buyouts and sign with other clubs. (If they are waived before March 1st, they continue to be eligible for the playoffs.) However, the trade deadline is the NBA teams’ final opportunity to make a big in-season addition.

Most of the major trades this season have already been made. Late in December, OG Anunoby left the Toronto Raptors for the New York Knicks, and two weeks later, former teammate Pascal Siakam signed a big contract to join the Indiana Pacers. Terry Rozier was acquired by the Miami Heat last week from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a first-round draft selection.

The top two players still available on Sam Vecenie’s list of 40 players now available for trade are Dejounte Murray of Atlanta and DeMar DeRozan of Chicago.

For the purpose of reiterating: Thursday, February 8 is the trade deadline! We began listing the top five and worse five deadline trades ever this past Friday. We examine the fourth-best and fourth-worst offers on this list today.

It’s rare for deadline trades to result in a championship, but that’s exactly what happened when the Raptors acquired Marc Gasol for Toronto five years ago. In actuality, Valančiūnas enjoyed a successful tenure with the Grizzlies as a result of it. In addition to providing some playmaking from the centre position, Gasol strengthened Toronto’s defence and assisted Kawhi Leonard in leading the Raptors to their first-ever championship. During that postseason run, Gasol played in three of his four highest-scoring games in the Finals.
