LATEST NEWS: Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year goes to Tua Tagovailoa.
Don’t allow the Miami Dolphins’ season not go as the players, coaches, or fans had hoped overshadow Tua Tagovailoa’s accomplishments from the previous campaign. The majority of Dolphins supporters recall the tense moments that followed Tagovailoa’s concussion in the team’s Week 4 2022 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Even though he bounced back from the head injury and continued to put up strong performances, he eventually had another concussion against the Green Bay Packers, which may have been his third of the year, which ended his season.
Despite the fact that Tagovailoa subsequently disclosed that he had considered retiring at the conclusion of that campaign, these problems raised more questions about the possibility that Tagovailoa was just unable to maintain his health throughout an NFL season. He hadn’t participated in more than 13 games throughout his three NFL seasons. This comes after a painful hip injury ended his ailment-plagued collegiate career.
Maintaining Tagovailoa on the pitch throughout the whole 17-game schedule became the main priority heading into the previous offseason. In order to achieve this aim, Tagovailoa had to first work with personal trainer Nick Hicks to increase his muscular mass—a move that earned him criticism. The next phase was his well reported introduction to the art of jiu jitsu, where he focused on learning the correct technique for falling to prevent injuries, particularly to his head and neck. Mike McDaniel engineered the offence to get the ball out fast, which led to the third step. Tua was able to avoid taking numerous blows and make use of his remarkable ability to predict defender movement.
As they say, the rest is history. For the first time in his NFL career, Tagovailoa would go on to start and participate in every game of the campaign. In addition to being in the top five in passing touchdowns, completion %, and passer rating, he led the NFL in passing yards. In addition, he recorded the third-highest number of “big time throws” of any NFL quarterback at the end of the regular season (90.2), according to PFF. Even though he didn’t lead them to the Super Bowl, Tagovailoa made significant progress this season.
It’s no minor accomplishment that he can focus on and reach a goal in the summer. Fans of the Dolphins should be eager to know what his objectives are for the 2024 campaign now that he has demonstrated that he can play for the whole season without injury.

Dolphins interviewing the grandson of Don Shula to be defensive coordinator
To replace a critical position on their defensive staff, the Miami Dolphins are thinking about drawing on the legacy of a renowned coach from their team’s past.
According to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Thursday, Chris Shula is interviewing for the role of defensive coordinator for the organisation. For the last seven seasons, the grandson of legendary coach Don Shula has been a member of Sean McVay’s staff with the Los Angeles Rams, most recently serving as the linebackers coach and coordinator of the team’s pass rush.
The Rams chose Raheem Morris as their head coach, leaving Shula, 37, to audition for the position of defensive coordinator. Dave, Shula’s father, was an assistant coach with the Dolphins and the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to Nick Saban, his uncle Mike was Alabama’s head coach.
With 328 regular-season victories and 347 overall, Don Shula is the most successful coach in NFL history. He won 16 postseason games and 258 regular-season games, including two Super Bowls, with the Dolphins.
After the Dolphins and Vic Fangio decided to split ways at the end of this season, the team started looking for a new defensive coordinator. Since then, Fangio has joined the Philadelphia Eagles in the same role.
Miami head coach Mike McDaniel has interviewed a number of candidates in addition to Shula, such as former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers Brandon Staley, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier of the Buffalo Bills, defensive line coach Anthony Weaver of the Baltimore Ravens, and linebackers coach Chris Kiffin of the Houston Texans.
The Dolphins have also discussed the vacancy with their existing staff coaches, outside linebackers coach Ryan Slowik and linebackers coach Anthony Campanile.
