General Manager of the Cleveland Browns, Ray Farmer, reportedly got fired

The Cleveland Browns are going to see some changes.

Prior to Sunday’s Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Browns general manager Ray Farmer met with owner Jimmy Haslam, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, and was informed he will not be back the following season.

According to a Saturday article from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Haslam may dismiss Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine as early as Sunday evening. Cabot said that after the Browns’ season concluded, Haslam might begin interviewing possible successors.

With Farmer’s firing, Haslam has altered the front office twice in the last two seasons.

The Browns made the startling decision to fire former general manager Mike Lombardi and CEO Joe Banner after just one year of employment, prior to appointing Farmer as general manager on February 11, 2014.

No matter how badly Cleveland’s year ended, Haslam went on record in August to assure reporters that he would not “blow things up”.

After Farmer’s departure, Cleveland will appoint a sixth general manager in eight years, according to NFL.com’s Albert Breer.

Following their season-ending loss to Pittsburgh, the Browns finished with a 3-13 record and will be selected with the second overall pick in the NFL draft. In the two years Farmer was Cleveland’s general manager, the team selected four first-round picks, Johnny Manziel of the quarterback position among them.

According to Matthew Florjancic of WKYC.com, Farmer told reporters in November that he thought he was building a culture in Cleveland, despite another poor season.

Thus far, the situation in Cleveland has been utterly terrible, leaving behind little more than a failing civilization. The Browns began the 2014 season 7-4 and have since lost 18 of their previous 21 games.

Although Haslam’s decision to keep handing over the front office is poorly received, the numbers speak for themselves. The Browns might actually have to rebuild from scratch.

Browns Reorganise Coaching Staff Following Playoff Loss Against Texans – AFC North News

This season, Cleveland and Cincinnati have drawn both of their encounters. In the Wild Card stage of the playoffs, the Browns were defeated by the Texans 45-14.

Even after the Browns qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2020, Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff is still being altered.

Josina Anderson reports that Cleveland fired tight ends coach T.C. McCartney, running backs coach Stump Mitchell, and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.

“The news has upset some of the players,” Anderson tweeted.

It’s possible that other AFC North teams make adjustments to their coaching staff besides the Browns.

Both Ravens defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald and Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan are interviewing for head coaching positions, and it’s possible that one of them will be hired during this cycle. It’s important to remember that Van Pelt was the quarterbacks coach for the Bengals for two seasons, including 2019, which was Zac Taylor’s first season in Cincinnati.
