HEART-WRENTING : The dismissal of the defensive coordinator was due to…

By removing defensive coordinator Sean Desai from his position, the Philadelphia Eagles have made a major coaching shift. This move comes after a string of lacklustre games that led to the Eagles’ poor 10-3 season. Numerous sources corroborated the decision, emphasising how urgently the club has to change its defensive tactics.

The 40-year-old Desai first signed with the Eagles in February, taking over for Jonathan Gannon, who left to take a head coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals. However, after back-to-back defeats to the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers in early December, head coach Nick Sirianni made the decision to demote Desai. Matt Patricia took Desai’s position, but the team’s decline continued unabated.

Over the last four games of the season, the Eagles’ defence let up an average of thirty points, demonstrating their defensive shortcomings. Their defence let up 32 points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the pivotal wild-card game. The Eagles surrendered the second-highest amount of throwing touchdowns in the league and performed badly overall against the run and in the red zone.

Desai started his NFL career as a quality control coach and worked his way up to defensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears from 2013 to 2021. In 2022, he worked as the defensive assistant and associate head coach for the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Eagles. The Eagles are now searching for a fresh defensive approach to improve their play in the next campaign.
