Nationals’ DJ Herz Placed on Injured List with Elbow Sprain
WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have placed left-handed pitcher DJ Herz on the 15-day injured list due to a sprained ligament in his pitching elbow, a setback just as the team prepares for Opening Day.
Herz, 24, was recently optioned to Triple-A Rochester after being among the final cuts from spring training. Despite a challenging spring, where he posted an 0-2 record with a 6.52 ERA across four appearances (three of them starts), the young pitcher was expected to be a key depth piece for Washington’s rotation this season.
A former top prospect, Herz made his MLB debut last June and went on to log 19 appearances (all starts) in 2024, finishing with a 4-9 record, a 4.16 ERA, and 108 strikeouts in 88 2/3 innings.
With Opening Day fast approaching, the Nationals will now have to adjust their roster ahead of their season opener against the Philadelphia Phillies at Nationals Park.
