On Wednesday in Kelowna, British Columbia, at the Pan Continental Curling Championships, Canadian skips Brad Gushue and Kerri Einarson secured playoff places.

In the men’s A division round robin, St. John’s resident Gushue skipped Canada to an 8-1 victory over Taiwan’s Randy Shen, securing a position in the semifinal at the Kelowna Curling Club on Friday morning.

With a 4-1 record, his team will play its final two games of the round robin on Wednesday night against Jay Merchant of Australia and Thursday afternoon against Rayad Husain of Guyana.

Despite falling short of South Korea’s Eunji Gim 9-8 on Wednesday, Einarson’s team will move on to Thursday night’s women’s A division semifinal.

Even though Canada lost, its 3-3 record was sufficient to advance, since Adriana Camarena of Mexico and Jessica Smith of New Zealand also suffered defeats on Wednesday afternoon.

Gimli, Manitoba’s Einarson will play Mexico in the final round robin on Thursday morning.
