For the NFC wild-card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers will be playing with nearly full strength. The Cowboys will play with maximum intensity.
Following productive warmup workouts, cornerback Jaire Alexander and receiver Christian Watson are active for the playoff matchup, which is a major plus for the Packers.
They’re not just going to be around, the Packers will be depending on them. Fierce rookie receiver Malik Heath and cornerback David Long, who was promoted from the practice squad for insurance, are not on the team’s active roster.
It is impossible to minimize their presence.
Alexander only participated in seven games this season; he was suspended for one game and missed seven of the previous nine games because of a shoulder ailment. During practice on Wednesday, he rolled an ankle. For the remainder of the week, he concentrated on “(a)round the clock” treatment rather than practicing.
Although Alexander’s season has been essentially forgettable by his All-Pro standards, the outstanding tandem of quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb leads the Cowboys’ top-ranked scoring attack.
Regarding their relationship, coach Matt LaFleur remarked, “It’s among the best in the league.” They have a vibrant and explosive quality. They will undoubtedly try to find various ways to pass the ball to him because of his threat level and ability to outrun opponents with speed. He is a large, powerful man. We need to be aware of No. 88’s location on every snap since he has the ability to break tackles.
It would be intriguing to see if defensive coordinator Joe Barry plays his typical take-away-the-big-play zone strategies or matches a less-than-full speed Alexander against Lamb, who is a beast in the slot.
“I’ve said this before,” Barry remarked, “the problem with matching a guy isn’t the guy; the player is only interested in a jersey number and he’s going to that side. The other players have to play off that.” Since we’ve done it previously, we feel at ease doing it.
Watson’s hamstring issue kept him out of the last five games. Although without him the passing attack has been excellent, he scored three touchdowns in the Lambeau Field game the previous year.
Good players are never enough, according to LaFleur. “Yes, I believe that their absence for a while presents some difficulties in figuring out how to include them in the lineup and what to do with them specifically, but it’s a nice thing to have to solve.

Cooper Rush, Dallas’ backup quarterback, was the sole player listed as injured in the final roster. Rush is active, therefore their inactives list is filled by nothing but deep backups: quarterback Trey Lance (third QB), cornerback Eric Scott, receiver Jalen Brooks, offensive linemen Asim Richards and Matt Waletzko and defensive lineman Villami Fehoko.
