Due to a coin toss incident, Packers CB a player will miss the Vikings game.
Green Bay, Wisconsin, For Sunday night’s crucial game against Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers has been suspended by the organization.
Jaren Hall, the Vikings’ rookie quarterback, will start against the Packers.
The decision was prompted by Alexander designating himself as captain for the Packers’ Christmas Eve victory against Carolina, which ended in a 33-30 victory.
Together with general manager Brian Gutekunst, coach Matt LaFleur made the decision. “It’s never for one thing,” he stated. “I believe that everyone engaged has taught us many things along the process, and hopefully we are able to apply them. I believe we will. Going ahead, I believe there will most likely be improved communication.
Alexander was given a one-game suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team,” according to a statement from the group.
“We never take this decision to suspend a player lightly,” Gutekunst stated in a statement. Regretfully, we had to take this measure because of Jaire’s behavior before the Carolina game. Within our organization, it is expected of everyone to prioritize the team.
While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week as he is a valued member of this team and will continue to be in the future.
Following a six-game absence due to a shoulder injury, Alexander made his way back into Green Bay’s lineup against Carolina. He wasn’t selected by LaFleur as one of his three weekly captains. Alexander believed he should be captain because the game was being played in Charlotte, his hometown. That’s why he created one.
“I believe Coach was unaware that I was from Charlotte,” Alexander declared following the match.
He nearly cost the Packers a possession, which made the situation worse.
Upon the Packers winning the toss, Alexander stated that the defense preferred to take the field first instead of stating that he preferred to wait until the second half to make the decision. The Packers were lucky that LaFleur had communicated his wishes ahead of time to the officiating team, which was captained by Alex Kemp.
“I said, ‘I want our defense to be out there,’ and they all looked at me like I was crazy,” Alexander recalled. “What I said is quite straightforward. “I desire the defense to be publicized.” It’s like, ‘You mean defer?’ And I’m thinking, “Well, I suppose.
Alexander’s ban prevents him from playing in Sunday night’s game against Minnesota. For both teams to remain in the NFC playoff hunt, they must both win (7–7).
Regardless of who the Vikings start at quarterback, Jefferson is expected to be a key component of their game plan. Whether Jaren Hall, Nick Mullens, or Joshua Dobb will start at quarterback for the Vikings has not been disclosed.
After four seasons, Jefferson holds the NFL record for the most receiving yards of any player. Jefferson trails only Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins in receiving yards per game this season among all NFL players with 102.9 this season. Jefferson was placed on injured reserve earlier this season due to a hamstring injury, which prevented him from playing in the Vikings’ 24-10 victory over Green Bay.
Jefferson caught six catches for 141 yards and one score on Sunday as the Vikings fell short of the Detroit Lions, 30–24, with Mullens starting at quarterback.
For the last two home games versus the Packers, Jefferson has been nearly unstoppable. The Packers defeated him 34–31 in 2021 after he caught eight passes for 169 yards and two scores. In 2022, he had nine receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns in a 23–7 victory.

Alexander was not deployed to shadow Jefferson in 2022 after missing the game in 2021 due to a shoulder ailment.
Alexander started with Eric Stokes against Carolina. Rookie Carrington Valentine has started 10 games, while veteran Corey Ballentine has started five. Alexander has missed a total of nine games due to injury, and Rasul Douglas was sent to the Buffalo Bills during the trade deadline.
