good news;Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers was left out of the 2024 Pro Bowl despite having higher numbers than Matthew Stafford…

The Green Bay Packers do not have a single Pro Bowl player for the first time since 2005. Jaire Alexander and Elgton Jenkins represented the Packers on the Pro Bowl roster last season. Keisean Nixon was the only player this year who garnered enough votes in the fan vote to rank among the top ten players at his position.

Green Bay was one of only four NFL clubs without a single Pro Bowler. The New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Washington Commanders were the others. The Packers are the only one of these four teams in contention for a spot in the NFL Playoffs.

While it is disheartening that Nixon, who leads the NFL in kick return yards, and Rashan Gary, who has had a Pro Bowl-caliber season, are not on the roster, that might change in the coming weeks. Every year, numerous players decline to play in the Pro Bowl, and alternates fill their spots.

This year, five Packers players were named as alternates and could wind up in the Pro Bowl if someone drops out.

Gary was gradually introduced to playing time in his first season back from a torn ACL. Despite not playing a full game until midseason, he has 9.0 sacks, which is the second-highest total of his career.

His 59 total pressures (per PFF) rank 21st in the NFL, and while that may not seem outstanding, he has done so in only 366 pass rush snaps. In comparison, Nick Bosa had 94 pressures in 561 pass rush snaps and was nominated to the 2024 Pro Bowl.

In other words, if Gary hadn’t been recovering from an injury, his results would have been much better.

Elgton Jenkins had the highest pass blocking grade on PFF of any offensive guard in the NFC. Furthermore, he has not allowed a single sack this season.

Jenkins, on the other hand, falls short when it comes to run blocking. His 57.4 run blocking grade ranks 72nd in the NFL among offensive guards, according to PFF.

Kenny Clark has 6.5 sacks this season, a career high. On PFF’s database, he has eight sacks, which ranks him tenth in the NFL among interior defensive linemen. In addition, his 56 total pressures rank eighth in the NFL and third in the NFC.

Clark, interestingly, has made two Pro Bowls in his career, both in alternating seasons. His first came in 2019, and his second will come in 2021. Making it an alternate in 2023 would continue the trend.

Let’s be honest: Jaire Alexander being picked an alternative is a tad perplexing. While he is undeniably one of the NFL’s most gifted cornerbacks, he has only appeared in six games this season. And his injuries have reduced his ability to play.

Alexander has a career-worst 71.6% completion rate when targeted and a 16.7% missed tackle percentage. On PFF, his coverage grade of 68.5 is somewhat above average, yet he ranks 72nd in the NFL.

Keisean Nixon, the Packers’ kick returner, is a player who should have been nominated to the Pro Bowl. Nixon, who was named a First-Team All-Pro last season, leads the NFL in kick returns (29), kick return yards (761), and return yards per game (26.2).

The New Orleans Saints’ Rashid Shaheed was chosen the NFC’s Pro Bowl kick returner, however his combined punt return yards (321) and kick return yards (384) are less than Nixon’s kick return yards alone.
