A player that is an ex-Packers center who was a member of three consecutive championship teams, passes away at age 81.
AP – GREEN BAY, WI Ken Bowman passed away. He was a member of three championship teams while playing center for the Green Bay Packers from 1964 to 1973. At eighty-one.
The news of Bowman’s death in Oro Valley, Arizona last Wednesday was disclosed by the Packers on Tuesday. The Packers’ statement quoted Bowman’s wife, Roseann, as saying he passed away from natural causes, but the team did not reveal the cause of death.
In 1965, the year prior to the inaugural Super Bowl, Bowman was a member of the Packers’ NFL title-winning squad. He also played on the winning teams of the consecutive two Super Bowl seasons.
While the Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 in the 1967 NFL championship game in the “Ice Bowl,” which had a kickoff temperature of minus-13 degrees Fahrenheit, he is most remembered for snapping the ball to Bart Starr and blocking the Hall of Fame quarterback’s game-winning 1-yard touchdown sneak.
Bowman played for the Packers when they won the NFL championship in 1965, the year before the first Super Bowl ever took place. Additionally, he was a member of the winning squads in the previous two Super Bowl seasons.
