DAVIE (CBSMiami): Fans may have been initially pleased by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross’ decision on Tuesday to fire general manager Jeff Ireland,

In roughly a week the Dolphins have justifiably fired both Jeff Ireland and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. But, the Dolphins, at least as of Wednesday morning, have decided to keep head coach Joe Philbin in his current position.

According to multiple reports, Ireland parted ways with the team on Tuesday after Ross revealed a restructuring in the front office that would have taken much of Ireland’s power away. Dolphins executive vice presidents of football operations Dawn Aponte has also been brought into the middle of the situation.

but it’s still unclear who among the strong candidates for general manager would want to deal with Davie’s instability.

The Dolphins fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman and Jeff Ireland with good reason in about a week. However, the Dolphins have chosen to retain head coach Joe Philbin in his current role, at least as of Wednesday morning.

Ireland reportedly broke up with the squad on Tuesday when Ross disclosed a front office reorganization that would have significantly reduced Ireland’s authority. Dawn Aponte, the executive vice president of football operations for the Dolphins, has also been involved in the dispute.
