Although Bournemouth’s Christmas lights will not be funded this year by BCP Council, the town center’s Business Improvement District has plans to ensure that locals and businesses will not be left in the dark.
The Bournemouth Town Centre BID has agreed to pay for new attractions to increase foot traffic as well as street lighting throughout the entire town center.
For the BID levy payers, Chairman Martin Davis expressed his dissatisfaction with the council.
He declared: “Investment in our town center is critical – especially during the most important trading period of the year. We are well aware of the enormous financial issues many local authorities, including BCP, are facing
“In May, the newly elected BCP administration declared that revitalizing Bournemouth Town Center was one of its key goals. This would have been a suitable method of displaying it.

He also mentioned how the lack of holiday parking discounts from the council would hurt foot traffic.
Fortunately, the BID has its own strategies for attracting tourists with a few new initiatives this holiday season, including the Shape of Things to Come path and its “stunning and environmentally sustainable” projection mapping on buildings and trees.
Window vinyls will be placed across the town center as part of the trail, giving tourists access to an augmented reality experience and teaching them about Bournemouth’s heritage.
In addition, each participant will be given a free entry into a drawing for a Town Centre Gift Card, which is made possible by a grant from BCP Council.
We’re ready, willing, and able to act on behalf of our levy-payers and our town center, said Paul Kinvig, CEO of the BID.
“We’ll be making every effort to present a lively and cheerful presence.
“We are also excited to introduce the Shape of Things to Come trail to the community. It’s an excellent way to combine the past and present of Bournemouth.
For us, the main goal is to encourage as many children and families as possible to visit various areas of the town center.
On November 17, the entire BID Christmas program will start, with further information on the lights, projection mapping, and trail to follow.
